This auction is for the very collectible French Lamp - not as in the country, but as in the man, Alonzo French, who acquired a patent in 1870 for "securing glass vessels to metal bases" (see patent photo). The technique was to blow a hollow peg with threads as part of the form of the lamp font. This could then be screwed into a tin plate with the corresponding female threads. Simple but effective. The font is marked with the patent date "PAT. JULEY 5 1870" and yes, July is actually misspelled like that. These are pretty scarce lamps and, aside from the obvious paint loss and a little bit of rust, this one's in wonderful condition. The brass finger hold is nice and tight, and the early fine line No. 1 collar is perfect, as is the glass font. It stands 4-1/2" tall and the base is 4-5/8" in diameter.Please ask questions if you have any. I try to be fully open in all of my auctions because I want us both to be happy with the results.
