ANTIQUE AMERICAN CARVED OAK LIBRARY TABLE DESK C 1875 19TH CENTURY POSSIBLY ATTRIBUTED TO R J HORNER This incredible yet simple Victorian quartersawn oak library table with a single drawer is truly fine antique from the 1870 to 1880 time period. In the estate of a Charleston dealer...who retired in 1920...this piece along with many other American examples of fine furniture were found. This oak table was restored to original condition in Charleston.....with a hand rubbed shellaced finish. During the restoration, one of the carved lions was replaced with a hand carved replacement by the premier wood hand carver in Charleston. Unless told, it is hard to determine the original vs the replacement. The top has a small ink stain...and other than that...it is in excellent condition! This is a view of the top from the rear of the table. The perimeter of the table is highly carved and decorated. The brasses were replaced with appropriate brasses for the drawer. The design of the drawer is very elegant..especially from the side view. The single long drawer is hand dovetailed. T is a number stamped into one side and this is the only manufacturing mark identified. The base incorporates a typical and pleasing Victorian design....especially with the stretcher. Each of the feet retains the original caster. is the view from the rear of the table. Measurements are as follows: Height = 29" Length = 46" Width = 28" This is one of those tables that is highly coveted and hard to find and fitting into almost any setting....just enough superb carving and detail and a perfect size! This table will be shipped via an excellent blanket wrap shipper....HOWEVER...please email your city, state, and zip for a firm quote....as t are SEVERAL states which are more difficult to deliver to and more expensive than others.
