This auction is for one "American Family Scale" that was used on the counter top of candy stores etc. We believe from pictures we have seen the tray to be original, it fits well touching all four holding prongs. The scale goes to 24 pounds, adjusts easy and according to our one pound weights is very accurate. The scale is black with gold writing "American Family Scale" on each side. Take a look at the face, the odd numbers are smaller on the outside and the even numbers are larger more toward the center. The face of the scale is white with black letters. The writing on the face reads "AMERICAN FAMILY SCALE Patended Oct. 25, 1898 WARRANTED". T are also two screws on the face, around one states "24 LBS." the other "BY OZS." T is a gold and black decoration all around the face, below the face is a brass plaque which reads "WM. H. Carson NEW YORK". The Pan measures approx. 8" X 12.5", while the whole scale with pan measures 12.5" tall. Another item of interest is the scale still has a small lead disc attached by wire to the top of the scale with the letters "BS". We believe this was left by the inspector of Weights & Measures, and the BS could mean balanced scale or could be the inspectors initials. This scale is not mint, the face is dirty and stained, t are scratches, some minor surface rust and the pan shows dings and ruffles in the read more
