Here's a very nice old or antique arts and crafts era copper item we received recently with some estate goods. This one is marked "Old Mission Kopperkraft" and that should place it's age somewhere in the early 1900's to about 1920. The makers were California or San Francisco artists of the period who worked in copper much like the Roycroft pieces we see occasionally. There is information easily available on the internet. This piece is designed for use near a fireplace or woodstove and consists of a copper tank or pot used to hold kerosene and a pumice stone on a forged wrought iron handle often called a wand. The wand would be lit and inserted under the logs where it would remain burning long enough to start the fire. This piece is nicely detailed with a ribbed design on the upper body and a hammered design on the lower body. Nice overall appearance. The are slight signs of aging and very minor signs of use, very nice set. The pumice stone has worn a little against the collar and nut that hold it over the years so it is a little loose on the wand. The piece could use a little light cleanup. It stands about 9 inches tall or several inches taller if counted to the top of the wrought iron bail. At the base it is about 8.5 inches in diameter. It has a double lip type design at the top and a upturned edge at the base in it's style. Both read more
