Antique Art Deco Star Sapphire Ring
❀Antique Art Deco 14k white gold ring.
❀It is set with a genuine natural corundum pale blue star sapphire. This stone is unlike any that I have handled. It has a natural cavity in the back and it has a brown spot in there that I tried to clean and pick out and it does not budge. It looks like it may be a matrix inclusion. (host rock) This stone has two other dark inclusions closer to the table that you can see in some of the photos. Now, in the light from some angles you can see through the stone and can pick up the swirling shadows of the cavity. With the asterism or star, which is a natural star that forms because of rutile in the stone, it looks from some angles like sun rays coming through storm clouds! It is an amazing stone to look at. I am so glad that it is set into a ring where one can look at it frequently. The stone has an approximate weight of 3 carats, but that is calculated from the face measurements. Those measurements are approximately 12mm by 9 mm.
❀The stone is embellished with two brillant and one baguette diamond on each side. The diamonds are old cuts, but quite clean and have good sparkling brilliance.
❀The photos were taken outdoors in the sun. The sapphire looks quite grey in the photos, but in person it is slightly more on the blue side.
