History: *********************** OMEGA is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and symbolizes accomplishment and perfection - qualities that have been innt in every OMEGA watch since the company's founding by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1848. The brand's reputation for innovation and quality has led to numerous awards over the company's 150-year history, starting as early as 1900, with the Grand Prix at the Paris World Fair. OMEGA went on to be official timekeeper at no less than 21 Olympic Games, bringing numerous innovations to Olympic sports over the years, such as the first electronic timekeeping at the Helsinki games in 1952. OMEGA owes a large part of its watch making excellence to the quality of its movements. These magnificent watches are highly collectible, and hold a very special place in many collectors showcases. Description: *********************** For your consideration is this 14k solid gold Ladies Omega Watch. Dates most likely to early 30s, resembling Lady calibre R 11,5 designed in 1936, by Henri Kneuss, which was one of the smallest extra-wide, barrel-shaped movements in production at the time. (I provided copy of a picture of this movement for comparison) One of the main advantages is its large balance, which reduces the effects of arm movements on the watch's going rate. Because I am not an expert on Omega watches, this is best I can do in identifying the watch. I am including picture of the calibre and its serial number so the exact date could be determined. Apart from date, this watch greatly resembles the Omega wrist watch that Amelia Earhart insisted on wearing when crossing Atlantic in 1934. Marked Omega and Swiss made on the dial, signed 3x (interior case, and inside movement), in addition to 14k inside of the case and 15 jewels, most likely rubies. The side of band pins (which are by the way not removable but a solid extension of the case) is a stamp of a Squirrel? Which can also be seen stamped on the case interior. Must be something Omega used at that time. The case siding features some remarkable art deco period filigree design, beading, wheat shaft and rose buds. The original dial with Deco style Arabic numerals is also very nice...two tone with reflective middle, having blued steel hands, a real Art Deco treat! It is a beauty and the pictures do not do justice to this watch at all. If you considering this as a gift, it will be a treasured surprise! Dimensions: *********************** The case itself measures 2.5 cm by 1.5 cm or (aprox 1 inch x 0.5 inch) not including the pin extensions. It is 5 mm thick, or not quite 0.25 inch. The entire watch weighs 8.7 grams. Condition: *********************** Everything that you see is 100% original, the only thing missing is the band, which was most likely leather and detoriated over the last century. However, a new custom band will be most fitting, as this watch could be easily worn with solid gold or leather band alike. The crystal and case are in superb condition, very very minor scuffing due to age. The watch works, however it does not keep time well and needs to be serviced. I was considering keeping the watch and sending it to Omega for servicing, which offers this service. The face plate is brass, common material used during that time. T is some aging and scuffing along the edges, which is more visible when taken out of the case. The aging of the plate underneath can also be seen in the picture showing the movement. I believe all it needs is cleaning, but I will leave that to an expert. The lighting of the picture does not do justice to the calibre, it is much cleaner then it appears. Again, needs to be cleaned and serviced. The fine print: *********************** Not to bore you and make you scroll for description and pictures, I included all the rules, instructions and fine print all the way down, at the end of the page.
