Back in the day I used to restore and sell telephones on eBay but had to stop when my regular job took over my life. Then I moved to a garden home, and everything had to go into storage. Many antique telephones from my personal collection must go to new homes due to my space constraints. This auction is for a rare and handsome art deco 1218-A 1930’s Stromberg Carlson bell chime box, used instead of a ringer, for an elegant way to beckon the subscriber to answer the telephone with a sound like a door bell’s ding-dong. Everything here is original. Condition is wonderful throughout, with just a little flaking of the paint on top that reveals surface rust only at those spots. Measures 7 3/8” wide by 8” tall and 3 1/8” deep. In good working order, having been serviced by my friend Steve Hilsz some 20 years ago, and then displayed but never used. I added a line cord and connected it today to re-confirm that it still works prior to selling it. So now it’s plug-in ready for you. Technology has given us some decent disposable telephones today, but nothing compares to the opulence and elegance of some of yesterday’s dramatic design.
