Okay, just recently t was an eBay auction for one of these. It said, "You will NEVER find another fireplace screen like this one." Well, it just so happened that I had been shopping that very day and purchased this screen that is JUST like that one! is what the other seller said: What is the true story? You will NEVER find another fireplace screen like this one. When not in use it can be used as a statue for decoration, but when the fans come out, you are transported to another world. Centered around an unknown goddess who is guarded by her fierce beastly protector, the detail of this piece is OUTSTANDING! Not one inch of this brass is without design. It leaves you wondering about the true story that was meant to be told by the artist, for he did not leave any marks to praise his talent. ONLY THIS MASTERPIECE AND OUR IMAGINATIONS REMAIN. Sure, the description is dramatic, but so is this screen! As you slide the fan out, each beautiful piece locks into the other with a slide-type apparatus, so the screen is solid when extended. Instead of a goddess, I see an art deco or art nouveau flapper type lady dancer holding a ball or sp T is so much detail that you must see the pictures, as words just don't do this piece justice. As shown in the photos, each side has a locking apparatus which holds the piece closed. This superlative piece displays beautifully either way.
It is just over 33 inches tall and opens out to approximately 48 inches. It is 12 inches or less folded up. It weighs approximately 40 pounds and is very solid. It is an antique and in marvelous condition with a tiny bit of discoloration inside the very base. I see no damage to the piece. If it were polished it would be STUNNING. I am selling it as I found it, with the beautiful patina that only lots of time can give to brass. Paypal is our favorite method of payment but we accept checks and MOs. We will ship to some foreign countries. Please ask. Don't bid unless you are sure you want this item because I will pursue you through all of eBay's channels if you do.
