This is gorgeous antique Asian statue carved from solid wood. It's off a kneeling woman holding a mallet and small gong. I purchased this piece at auction and am uncertain of it's origin or age. My guess is that it is Thai. It appears to be many, many decades old. I have done nothing to restore it and am presenting it exactly as I purchased it at auction. As you can hopefully see in the photos, it's a lush and well crafted piece. It is approx. 15.5" tall and that's with her kneeling. Her head and hair alone are over 5.5" tall. Most of the piece was painted gold--which has mostly worn off. Her hair and eyes were painted black and that color has not worn so her eyes are still quite wonderful. Her clothing is carved with an intricate pattern and edged with many little pieces of mirror. Some of the mirror pieces are missing, but by far most are intact. As you can see in the photos--her arms are separating at the elbows but that is just a matter of the nails pulling loose and they can definitely be put back into place by someone with the right touch. The only other crack is at the left shoulder but the arm is still very much in place. Other than that she just needs a little cleaning. It's a wonderful piece and likely quite old. It's heavy and so rather expensive to ship, but definitely worth it.
