This is a very substantial box, classic in its simplicity, most probablyused as a tea caddy. It has been beautifully cast of bronze and weighs just short of 3 lbs, very heavy for its under-6-inch height. Although the piece is unmarked, it is surely Asian in origin – Chinese, Japanese, or Korean -- and likely dates from the mid- to late-1800s. The patina, developed over the years, is even and adds to the beauty of the object -- difficult to capture with photography. It’s a very nice, well-proportioned piece, the result of great craftsmanship and casting skill, and is in excellent condition. Dimensions: 4” x 3 ¼ “ x 5 ¾ “ tall. Weight: 2 lb 15 oz.
