This historic decagonal (10 angles) shaped phone is what many consider the premiere example of "art deco" in the industry. This phone, first manufactured in 1938 and popular throughout the 40s and early to middle 50s was the staple of Automatic Electric Company, Chicago, Illinois. The AE 40 is not seen often in restored condition largely due to the fact that replacements for the internal/external bottom rubber gasket, a part most essential for the aesthetics of the phone, are extremely difficult to come by. I do have a source though and such a new, reproduction gasket is on this phone! The beauty of the AE 40 is most apparent. It is a solid bakelite unit as both the handset and shell are comprised of this rugged and pleasing to look at material. As to the restoration, the phone has been completely taken apart and fully cleaned and tested down to the finest of details. The dial hums quietly and tests perfect for accuracy. The sound coming in and going out is crystal clear, plenty loud, and with a richness not found in the modern cellular phone world. The ringer works great. It`s loud and sure to get your attention while it really takes you back in time with the jingle. The phone is not only restored but it is in fantastic condition.
