Antique Barber Chair – MagnificentlyRestored Circa 1900’s, Drake Hotel If you are interested in this fantastic chair and wish to make an offer I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for looking. Selling an original restored 1900’s Barber Chair from the Drake Hotel, Streeterville, Chicago, Illinois. This Antique Barber Chair -Magnificently Restored -Red Porcelain, Brass Plating and decorative pin stripping throughout. It was purchased from an estate that acquired the restored chair from a Red Baron’s auction many years ago and had paid $18,000. The original buyer indicated the auction company said if was from the Drake Hotel, Chicago, ILL. Made in Chicago, this fine barber chair is in pristine condition. None compares to the incredible restoration. The entire chair was meticulously restored. It was dissembled with every nut and bolt removed, cleaned, polished, and plated before the artesian restoration began. The pedestal, arms, and seat are red cherry porcelain, with brass plating and the chair seat and chair back are leather tufted, pleated and button of pearl white that creates a sparkling contrast. The metal and leather adjustable footrest and cushion headrest are in good working condition. This hydraulic chair spins, raises, lowers and reclines perfectly. Restoration None Better! It is obvious that a great deal of time and effort was used to restore this magnificent Theo a Koch barber chair. There is a very minor crack about 1/2 inch on edge of lower grill but it is not noticeable. The Drake hotel in Chicago has inspired much legendary acclaim. It was a favorite among kings, queens, dignitaries, and celebrities alike, even Al Capone and Frank Nitti. It was home to the famous “Amos and Andy” radio show, and to numerous big band performances of the time. During the 1920s, the Prince of Wales (later known as the Duke of Windsor) was a guest of The Drake as well as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and other notables as Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe who visited the Drake’s Famous Cape Cod Room. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. You can pick up the chair if you wish or I generally use North American Van Lines, but I will assist with your choice of shipper. I will also ship overseas at the sellers expense.
