***PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION AND TERMS*** Antique Baush & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope - 1908 with Box Up for your consideration is this wonderful 1908 Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Microscope with its original wood box. I am not an expert on microscopes; however, I will try to detail as much as possible. The microscope is brass and black in color but I feel it is brass throughout (not completely sure); however the brass parts have some sort of gold or bronze color film over them…please see the picture of the side…. there is a section where that film has been flaked away and there is brass underneath (see pic 12). It can easily be flaked away if you wanted. I am uncertain if this is original or done later one. It is very heavy and with the box, it weighs approximately 13 lbs. The microscope measures about 12 ½” tall when eyepiece is at its lowest, 26 ¼” tall with the eyepiece extended up. It is approximately 6” deep and 4 ¼” wide at the base. It looks to have all its pieces and functions correctly. The mirror is intact, the slide arms are also intact, and everything moves up and down, in and out smoothly. There is a small circular plaque on the back base that reads “Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Rochester , NY 86559 8-1 Z 9 F.H. Thomas Co. Boston ” and on the lens rotator, it reads “B & L O. Co. Pat. Dec 1, ‘08” and around the lens rotator it has marks “1.9 mm”, “16 mm” and “4 mm”. The microscope tilts back and there is a handle hold in the back. There are three lenses on the microscope and are marked Bausch & Lomb. Two brass “Series 1 2/3 .25 N.A. Tube length 1600 mm” and “4 mm .65 N.A.”; and one chrome or metal “Achromatic 22.7 mm .17 6X U.S.A. Pat. 1.889.794”. There is also an eyepiece that just has the number 5 on the top. The box is light in general, probably pine, and has a brass handle at the top. It does lock and has a key that reads “Bausch & Lomb Opt. Co.”. The box measure 6 ¾” wide X 8 ¼” deep X 14 ¼” high. The box in general is in good condition but there is a crack on the back left corner that extends down about 5” and is very slender but does not have an effect on the box sturdiness. The bottom lip that extends outward from the base is broken off but can easily be reattached with a wood glue…it fits back together nicely. There are assorted scratches on the box from the years of wear. It was put together with brass screws and hinges. The microscope fits snuggly into the box and it secured with two wood pieces at the bottom and one that would hold the tray in place in the back. There are also two slide out lens holders at the top of the inside box. There are two brass cases in the holder for the 4mm and 16mm lens on the microscope. Each of the round lens cases has the mm size and B & Lo Co. on the top of the screw on cover. I am selling all my items AS IS.
