Up for auction is a magnificent old brass microscope from the Bausch & Lomb Optical Company. I will describe as best as possible, but I do not have any knowledge of these items so if you need additional information please email your questions. At the end of the listing, I will also include some information shared by a fellow eBayer with some knowledge of these instruments. This microscope comes in its original box, which appears to be made of cherry wood or similar, and has a brass handle on top. There is a 3/8 inch size hold on the side of the box where a part of the latch must have attached to the box, but it is missing so the box doesn't latch closed. Included is the microscope itself with one lense in the microscope and 3 additional size or strength lenses in brass containers and two additional brass containers. One container has pins in it. Not sure what this might have been used for, but am keeping them intact. Not knowing how this microscope operates, I am unable to provide any information as to its functionality. PLEASE NOTE: The large wheels that you turn to focus on the side do not seem to want to move when I turn them, seem to be "locked". I'm not sure if there isn't some sort of safety set to protect it when stored or not. I did not tamper with it, as again, I don't know how this thing operates. I'm simply selling for a friend. This microscope is marked as follows: Bausch & Lomb Optical Company, Rochester, NY and New York City. There is a number "22495". The microscope could use some cleaning. I did not tamper with it. The construction appears to be mostly of brass, with some white metal parts. On the inside of the box, there is an apparatus for storing the lenses. Note that 4 of the wooden inserts are missing so only 4 cases can hang inside. The measurement of the microscope is 12" tall. The base measures 4 1/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches. This piece is HEAVY and shipping costs are merely estimated. Actually shipping costs will be calculated after the auction and must be paid prior to shipping. Additional information shared by a fellow eBayer: "While it does feature the two optional fittings, it must be remembered that in those days, B&L would equip their products with non-standard equipment if such could be done. I can see that at some time in the past, someone has attempted to clean and possibly polish the instrument. Many of the components in the complex substage were originally painted black, and this appears to be gone completely. This is "no big deal" as a very convincing black enamel finish can be renewed." Please email your questions prior to bidding. PAYMENT IS DUE within 48 hours of auction end, or the item will be released to the next highest bidder. Thanks for looking!
