A great vintage Bausch & Lomb-labeled beam unit (microphotography lamp system?), recently brought back from Wollensak Optical in Rochester NY . A superb piece for the vintage optical collector! The unit measures 14 ½" high x 11" wide x roughly 13 ½" deep, with AC-powered light source enclosure, internal optics compartment, 6" long projection barrel, and black texture-enameled cast iron tripod mount. The light source is composed of a 2" square x 3 1/8" high black-enameled metal enclosure with a base-mounted white porcelain socket, unmarked bulb with 3/8" diameter threaded base, and a 45" long AC power cord with 2-prong plug. The enclosure has a 1 ½" diameter light port facing the optics compartment, and two internal metal clips (one on either side of the port) that would have held a filter or lens. The enclosure is missing the lid. The black texture-enameled metal optics compartment measures 3 ¾" long x 2 ½" wide x 3 ¼" deep (at the deepest end), has a six screw-attached stainless steel lid with attached 1 ¼" square 3/16" thick grooved glass panel, rear metal gate with 3 1/8" long chrome control lever, and two ½" x 1/8" brass positioning pegs. The underside of the lid has a stainless steel frame with side-by-side height-adjustable 5/8" long x 3/16" wide x ¼" deep beam splitters. The interior of the optics compartment also contains a Bausch & Lomb 4mm 0.65 43x objective. The objective is attached the inner end of the 6 ¼" long 1" diameter stainless steel projection barrel. The barrel can be moved forward or backward for focus adjustment, and locked into position by tightening the base screw on the surrounding metal collar. The rear of the optics compartment has a 1 ¼" diameter threaded opening (may have had a lens installed t at one time) aligned with the light port in the light source. The unit is operational, but does not produce a focused beam (probably due to one or several missing elements), and probably should have the electrical cord replaced (brittle insulation).
