Antique Bissell Carpet Sweeper

Antique Bissell Carpet Sweeper- Logo says: "Bissell's Grand Rapid 'Hi Lo' ball bearing". In the 19th century, a married couple named Anna and Melville Bissell invented a way to clean carpets without taking them outside. Their product was patented in 1876 and the first Bissell maufacturing plant was built in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Bissell soon became a household name, and it's even said that Queen Victoria once demanded that the Palace carpets be 'Bisselled'. Amazingly, despite its age and appearance, this sweeper still works very well! 14.5" x 9" with a 46" handle- Measurements are approximate. Fascinating antique piece!
