The name Bissell has become synonymous with this type of hand-held carpet sweepers. This model, the Grand Rapids, is an excellent example of why. Nearly a century after it was first manufactured this startlingly simple mechanism still works!It measures 39" high (including handle) and 14" wide.The structure of the item is primarily wood, was the moving parts are metal. Featured in the mechanism are Cyco Ball Bearings, a fact which is proudly proclaimed on the sweepers head. The decorative paint on the sweeper has been worn pretty thin, but it is readable and provides a subtle accent to the old wood finish.The metal is tarnished, and the wood is worn, but these are merely the honorable badge of age, and should not be considered damage.The story of manufactured mechanical goods is in some ways the story of America.
