Very handsome and elaborate Black Basalt teapot from a very fine old Dallas estate. Totally unmarked but certainly English and dating to the very early 1800s, ca. 1800 - 1820. The lid attaches to the body of the teapot by a steel pin (see pics) which I understand indicates that this teapot was probably made by John Glass of Hanley. Possibly early Wedgwood as it does have neoclassical modelling and some of the very early Wedgwood Black Basalt definitely was unmarked, but I really think more likely John Glass based on the handle attachment design. Either Wedgwood or John Glass, it's a superb example, very thinly potted and elaborately modelled, as the pics show, and unconditionally guaranteed an extremely early example, ca. 1820 or old. Your money (less shipping) cheerfully refunded with *no questions asked* if you buy it and don't agree after you see it in person, but you aren't going to be disappointed. SIZE: An extremely large example, about 12" long and nearly 7" tall. CONDITION: T is a small rim chip in the lid (see close of the lid and the chip is at the 12 o'clock position). It really doesn't matter *at all* because of the way the lid sits down below the decorative frieze of the teapot, but you do of course want to be aware of it. Also, one of the end-caps from the pin that holds the lid to the bottom of the teapot is missing read more
