Antique Black Forest Carved Bear Child's Chair
Fold back secret compartment!
Measuring 27.5" high and 12.5" wide at the widest, this whimsical child's chair would be a welcome addition to any home!
The detail of the bear's carving is quite remarkable, and the carving doesn't stop t, with very natural details covering the chair. You can even see the bear's individual teeth and claws. This was a tough item to take pictures of, it is so dark it is hard to show you the remarkable detail in this piece of furniture.
We have not cleaned the chair, as we know some folks are quite particular about such things.
This is an antique piece, from about the turn of the century, and certainly made in Germany. It's very sturdy, and in great shape, with only a nick or two to the wood. It's very dark oak. The hinges are brass.
As far as the secret compartment is concerned, we are not sure if it originally held a music box of some kind, or if it was used for anything else other than small storage. Any help from fellow Ebayers on this issue would be most appreciated! Just let us know if you have any questions or need any more information.
