From late in the 19th century or early in the 20th we have found a charming example of what is likely German in origin. The cutout work is so similar in style and subject to that of Black Forest carvings. This would have been about the same time just a different technique which would have allowed a faster making and thus these could have been sold as souvenir pieces. As you can see this has hangers at the top and shelves at the bottom and top and four corner tiny shelves. Inside is one shelf. Size is 17" high and about 13 1/2" at widest. As to the subject, whether you love the squirrels or hate them, they do make great subject for "art". The foliage is morning glory vines and flowers. The top shelf has foliage, a bird, and five acorns. I have had several of this type of work over the years, and some are stamped "Germany" on the back. This one does not have that. The condition of this piece is excellent. I have found only the slightest short crack in the left door at the bottom. Please ask any questions that you would like.
