The item of interest is an exquisite Black, Starr & Frost 8 inch sterling silver compote weighing 398.2 grams or 12.82 troy ounces. This ornate pierced sterling compote is from the 1930's and has a heavily intricate floral pattern on rim and base. The floral design is very crisp and the piece has nice oxidation and patina. Excellent condition for the age of this piece with no major dents or scratches. A lovely three letter intertwined fancy script monogram is in the center with the dates 1912 and 1937 on top and bottom of the monogram. In the area surrounding the monogram t are 2 barely detectable dents and one small scratch. In person and in the photos these age marks are not easily noticed. Engraved on the bottom is the sterling bird and hallmark of Black, Starr and Frost, an engraver's mark above sterling silver (G733), the numbers 269 (assumed to be a pattern number) and the number 1505 hand engraved under Black, Starr and Frost. Black, Starr and Frost was once located at Fifth and 48th Street in New York and began business in 1810. It was one of the most respected stores in New York and sold high-end and high quality specialty goods to a select clientele. This is a beautiful, high quality piece, so bid confidently.
