Hey folks. Up for bid is a wonderful rare antique Brace Back Windsor chair from around 1790. Made in NY, this chair is my favorite! Seat height-17-1/2", Seat width-16-5/8", seat length-20-1/2" ( including the brace) back seat height from the floor is 36-1/2", width- 18-3/4". The great aspect of this chair is the SADDLE seat which is EXTREMELY comfortable and was designed to relieve stress and strain on the back of the legs during long periods of sitting. The back is at such an angle that makes this chair a joy to sit in. 11 spindles ( very desireable). Made of mixed woods oak bow, hickory spindles, pine or poplar seat and maple legs. The woods used to construct the chair are very durable and because of the various woods used, back in the 18th century, it was thought to be unsightly so these chairs were originally painted red, black, green etc. T are traces of the old red paint under the chair seat. The chair was refinished probably over 150 years ago and shows signs of very fine spider veins in the finish and t are scratches, nicks and dings which adds a wonderful patina and character! The chair is EXTREMELY sturdy with it's splayed legs made of maple. Windsors like this were constructed and assembled "green" (new young wood) which inturn, made it very strong and durable to last the test of time. Please any and all questions. Shipping will be 75.00 and I'll use UPS to package it so it will be insured. Please check out my other auctions for quality antiques and collectibles.
