The owners of the Estate traveled the World over and the only thing that the Executor of the Estate could tell us is that this item came from somewhere in Asia. The Executor could not tell us the age or exact origin of this piece so as much as we would like to give you the history of it...we truly can't!We can tell you that we have spent many...many hours trying to find this piece somewhere on the internet and we couldn't find anything anywhere that looked like this piece! We did see plenty of other solid brass cobra designed candlestick holders but none of them had the "gong/bell" feature that this candlestick holder has!You can see on the front of the cobra there is a "gong/bell" with the "striker" that hangs from the mouth of the cobra. There's also (2) "holders" behind the cobra (1 on each side) and from the looks of them it looks like at one point and time they may have held some other instrument and/or tool to this piece. Again...we honestly have no idea what these "holders" were for or if they held anything at all?!?!?Another unique fact about this piece is that all of the other cobra/snake candlestick holders we have seen (EBAY-ETSY-Pintrest-Bing-Google-Asian Antiques)...all of them had an "opened coiled space" underneath the cobra. If you notice on this piece the cobra has his entire body coiled up underneath him. Needless to say...we have yet to find one that looks exactly like this one!One of the other unique features about this cobra is its "Ruby Red" eyes! If you look closely at the pictures you'll see that both of the stones are still intact for it's eyes. It also has beautiful-ornate patterns throughout the entire piece including the cobras "skin". If you can zoom in on the pictures you'll hopefully be able to see all of the detailing that went into the cobra as well as the candlestick holder and the area surrounding it. It truly is a great looking piece to own if you're a collector of these types of items.The cobra measures almost 10 inches tall....7 inches wide at the widest points and from the front to the back this piece also measures 7 inches in "depth". This candlestick holder is not light in weight either!
