Antique Brazilian Rosewood Veneer Writing Box/Lap Desk You are bidding on a Superb Regency Writing Box/Lap Desk in Brazilian Rosewood circa 1815 and you are also getting the antique stand to sit the writing box/lap desk on. This stand is a sturdy brass stand. This writing box is banded and inlaid in brass. It opens down to reveal a writing surface and space for writing implements. Under the last space t are also 3 secret drawers which are revealed when you lift that side up. English circa 1815. The box is 18 inches long, 10 inches wide and 6.5 inches tall (when closed). When opened the box measures 20 inches long, 10 inches wide and 4.5 inches tall. The figuring of the wood is very striking and the rich deep colour contrasts effectively with the brass decoration. The surrounding as well as the brass is of a substantial gauge compared to the later Victorian boxes and it performs a dual function of protecting and enhancing the box. The Brazilian Rosewood is a thick saw cut veneer and it was a greatly prized wood on account of its strength and figure. T is a lock on the front of the writing box/lap desk but we do not have the key. The open view of the writing box/lap desk shows the writing surface. This is covered in green leather with a golden design around the edges. The facings are all Rosewood. This writing box/lap desk also contains its original ink wells which can be seen in picture #6. This writing box/lap desk does have some blemishes on it and on the inside some of the Rosewood is chipped and coming off a little. This writing box/lap desk is a very fragile delicate piece. When you open the writing box/lap desk and see the writing surface, one side opens up and t is a compartment to store things and the other side opens up and t are three small drawers and a small compartment to store things. This is a very neat piece. When I first saw it, I said "WOW!" This piece is offered today with a .99 cent starting price with No Reserve! Happy Bidding!
