ANTIQUE BRONZE STATUE ON MARBLE BASE "BEETHOVEN PLAYING PIANO" This auction is for a very unique bronze statue sitting on a fabulous black grey streaked marble base. The statue is Ludwig Von Beethoven sitting at a piano with his hands out in front of him as if he is playing the keys. The piano bench he is sitting on is signed by the maker JR VHL, above these letters are symbols and numbers, some I can make out some I can not. T are a couple of symbols then 32 and a squiggly l -~ a number or symbol that looks like a 3 then another squiggly l. The statue is made of beautiful bronze with wonderful patina sitting on a gorgeous marble base. The felt is still totally intact and I believe original to the piece. Beethoven head is made of a tan substance that looks to be a very hard rubber that was placed into the neck opening of his bronze body. The expressions on his face are wonderful and the face has been made into a perfect likeness of him. The head does turn so you can position it looking in the direction you would like it to. The figure of Beethoven does move around as you can see it my photos but I have always left him this way instead of removing the felt to tighten the bolt or screw as it has always been easier to dust under his feet and keep him dusted on the front of his body this way. He is not wobbly he simply turns. I have seen one or two bronzes of Beethoven at the piano that has paper piano keys but I have had this piece over 40 years and it had no paper keys in place when I purchased it. I suppose the new owner could add keys if they desired to do so. This piece is in excellent condition for it's age and usage. It could however use a good cleaning but I did not want to use any cleansers and will leave that to the new person in Beethoven's life. The size of this bronze statue and marble base is 5 1/2" in total height. The marble base is 5 3/4" by 4 1/2". The total weight is 4 lb. ".6 oz." or 1830 grams. Please enlarge and look at all my photos of this Antique Bronze Statue of Beethoven Playing the Piano as my photos are part of my description and will give you a detailed look at the Beauty, Design, Detail and Condition of this Unique Statue. In the photos I tried to show every detail of this gorgeous piece and my photos actually describe this Bronze Statue better than I ever could with words. This Beethoven is a Work of Art that can be an addition to many different collections.
