We guarantee the medals provenance, age and authenticity as described below. Description: Bronze 1.25 inches; weight 8 grams with a beautiful bronze patina. The Buddha arrived at the city of Vaisali to word off the plague and calamities. The image is standing with the left arm hanging alongside the body. The right hand is raised at chest level, with palm spreading upright as a gesture of Forbidding. This antique medal was acquired by my mother, a Catholic missionary nurse living in Siam during the 1940’s. Some were acquired when visiting Buddhist temples near the hospital where she worked. Mom was astounded by the similarities to Christian Scripture, represented by each different Icon of the Buddha on her medals. There are 66 different Buddha Icons represented on her medals, and each symbolize different Buddha teachings. Bertha found that those Buddha teachings bear a striking resemblance to the New Testament teachings of Jesus ; for this reason she amassed a collection of them during her stay in Siam until the end of WWII when she left.
