Antique c1875 wedding gift cloth various needlework Search A beautiful hand-made cloth which was a gift to Alice Elizabeth Sterling on her wedding day in June of 1875 in Salinas, California. Her grandmother used every style of hand-stitching she knew to create this special cloth. I am selling it for a friend who is the great granddaughter of the bride. She is not well and is selling things that have gone unused for many, many years. This cloth has been stored and has yellow age spots on it, but I know a collector of fine linens will know how to clean it. I don't, so I have left it alone The cloth is 37" square to the end of the lace. Even the lace is handmade according to my friend. I have provided several photos to show the detail of the various stitching as well as the yellow spotting. I am putting a modest Reserve price at my friend's request. I don't usually use reserve, and I am willing to give you the Reserve price if you will e-mail me under "ask a question." I will provide insurance with auction. I will not accept returns on this item. It is obviously delicate, so it is best if you read the full description I have given and look at the photos carefully. This is an extraordinary work especially since we know its provenance. I brush clothing before shipping to remove any hair, but if cat dander or hair is a problem for you, please reconsider buying my items. Neither I nor my cat smokes and we banish anyone who does out to the deck. Sometimes I buy items used by a smoker and if their is a residual odor, I will say so. COMBINED SHIPPING: I will always give you a break on shipping if you are a winner of more that one item, if within 7 days of first purchase. Please notify me of your intention. I prefer to ship clothing in a Priority envelope, but I can be flexible if you wish Parcel Post, or in the case of multiple items, a Flat Rate Box.
