We are delighted to offer you this unusual and very nice antique 14 karat rose gold filled and/or plated ornate brooch, from circa 1880! The brooch measures 1 7/8" long and 1 1/4" wide at center. It is three dimensional, with a depth of 3/8". It weighs 10.7 grams, and is marked '14 k' on back ( see picture). But t is some tarnish to the inner rope part twisting about the middle area, possibly from someone pouring acid on it to test for gold content. This shows mostly from the back, and the appearance fro mthe front looks fine; a gentle cleansing should brighten the area up nicely! We shall present this nifty old brooch as marked for 14 Karat gold, but might only be gold filled, or plated. T are gleaming gold circles on the front, that appear to be affixed to the underlying portions, and these circles do indeed appear to be hammered solid gold. The brooch has an interesting 'slant', giving it the three dimensional look. T is a small Forget-Me -Not flower in the center, and intricate applied 'filigree' work on the top,in the form of scrolls, beads and cannon balls. ... the term is something like cannotille? The back side is equipped with an old 'T' tube hinge pin, with the elongated shaft, and a sturdy safety clasp, which may have been put on in the early 1900s. This old brooch appears to be in very good vintage condition, and should last another 100 years with proper care! Thank you for your interest!
