So please check out our other items AND ADD US TO YOUR FAVOURITE SELLERS **We can combine on postage** DESCRIPTION: We've been saving the best til last tonight! this is a fabulous quality cameo locket. Very unusual to see one carved from sardonyx hardstone and when they are, cameos are invariably better quality as they are harder to carve but take a more detailed design. this was hand carved, most likely in Italy and may have been an older cameo which was then incorporated into a new piece of jewellery (new then, this most likey dates to late Victorian period but the cameo itself may be much older.) Cameo iitself a bit dirty as pics show - we only noticed whjen uoploading the pics and will try to give it a little clean before we send to you! Not hallmarked which is a sign of its age as many older pieces weren't . We have tested it with various acids and it is 18ct rose gold. The supporting metal at the back is base metal for strength but this is in the main, solid gold. The bloodstone panel at the back is a replacement but this is the most likely material that would have been used and you ertainly wouldn't know that it had been replaced Fabulous condition, snaps shut nicely.
