This is a fabulous old stool intact with original needlepoint fabric, finish, and ornate nail head detail. The patina and hand tool marks are just awesome. Measures 15 1/2 x 11 x 10 inches tall. Excellent overall condition. Please note finish shows age and t is one old chip on underside of frame near leg (see photos). I do not know for certain the age or the wood type. I bought this at auction 10-12 years ago. The coloration of the unstained underside has darkened quite nicely. Again, I would only be guessing, but would date it somew between 1860 and 1910. The frame is definitely a hardwood--my guess is walnut. I have never taken this item in to be appraised or evaluated but I did find similar examples pictured on a few on-line antique stores over the years (key word WEB search for "Louis XV carved stool"). Most examples sighted were walnut, dated to late 1800s, and were referred to as Louis XV "inspired" or "style". Thanks for looking!
