I found this very interesting oak wooden panel today while out "picking" in a small local shop. I was struck by the subject, the amount of detail, and the quality of the work. I looks to be a fragment from possibly a chest or door or even a religious representation. The panel measures about 10 x 15 inches. The subject shown is a stork with a snake in its beak .I believe that is a symbol of good and evil, God and the Devil , with God triumphing over evil. The scene is framed in a carved raised border. The work could be from the 16th or 17th century and European in origin, it certainly has the look of wood of the period.
