An AntiqueSwedish Wonderfully Carved Mangle Board and Rolling Pin in good condition. It is not dated but I think it was made around 1850-1860 and painted first during 1920-1930. Before that it had the natural wood without painting. Some age wear - please se photos. The board was often carved by a young man for his bride-to-be, was pressed back and forth across cloth wound on the roller. The board was always one half of a pair. A roller was an essential companion to the board. While the board often was beautifully decorated on one side - sometimes with carved initials and dates - the roller had to be smooth and plain for effective ironing. Animal-shaped handles like the horse were often favoured in Sweden.
