Antique 19thC Carved Wood Corpus Jesus Christ Santos 2 of 2

A wood carving of Jesus, believed to be 19th Century Spanish colonial. Thick paint or gesso over wood. Part of a local collection of Mexican and Central American wood carvings. One of two Jesus Christ Corpus figures from this estate. Figure only, no cross. Especially nice detail in face, and knees, and compelling carving, but condition is not perfect. T are several loses to surface; some are to a whitish gesso layer, others are down to the wood. Primitive old repairs at shoulders and right elbow, long hair at neck. Fingers missing, newer loss at right thumb (all other losses are darkened with age. Feet still have wooden peg w attached to crucifix. Fabric cloth is sewn on with tiny hand stitches, gray from age. Figure measures 13" x 13-3/8" x 2-15/16"
