This absolutely spectacular and rare 18th century chandelier in carved wood and gold gilt has the most spectacular bold and undulating fluid movement throughout its 18 candle branches. There is an illegible signature on the interior of the wooden base that could possible be the maker, the carver or the gilder. There are also the numbers 844 and 851. It is still in it original candle burning power and it has a combination of water and oil gilding. The boldness of the design is striking. All of the candle cups are in a floral design and the bobeches have a pierced carving. At the bottom of the chandelier, the finial is of three winged cherubs. The central ring that holds the bottom tier of candle branches is probably brass or copper with gold gilding. There are six arms on the top tier and 12 arms on the main body. Again dating from the 18th century Ã,Â- one of the most beautiful baroque chandeliers. It has had some minor professional restoration over the years Ã,Â- which is very acceptable for an item of this age and delicacy. The chandelier is approx 30Ã,Â" at highest with a 35Ã,Â" overall diameter.
