Here's something you won't find every day. This carved Eagle on gothic style base has been in my father's office for at least the last 25 years -- where it was before that is a mystery. It has a small brass plate on the post that has been polished so many times it can not be read anymore but it appears the date 1891 is there. This great bird used to have a horizontal piece that that went across the back from the tips of the wings and the tail which must have created a ledge for the speaker's notes when it was used as a lecturn. Given that from the floor to the top of the head is 65-1/4", (5' 5"), either the speakers were all very tall or they stood on a higher platform than the lecturn. There are also two screw holes in the back of the wings whose original purpose eludes me. Other than that, it is complete and in great condition. Overall size is 65-1/4"H x 24-1/2"W wing tip to wing tip. End of tail feather section to beak is approx. 27". Perhaps this was from the Fraternal Order of the Eagles but I am open to suggestion on this - High Bidder gets to decide. As for the wood, it is a hardwood and is perhaps oak but hard to be sure. Perfect for your next Tea Party meeting! In any event, this is the finest one of these we have ever had. Can be delivered (for modest fuel charges) if near me in Hayward, CA, otherwise, you must make arragements for pick up and shipping. Feel free to ask any questions. Checks or cash for local buyers accepted if the buyer requests it in addition to PayPal. Best of luck. Winning bidder should wait for me to contact you before paying. Thanks for your interest.
