Presented here for your bidding evaluation is this antique or vintage cast bronze statue representing the Dancing Faun of Pompeii. This is a vintage figurine, believed to date to the 1940's or earlier, made in the likeness of the original statue excavated in Pompeii in the 1830's. Though I know little about the origins of this particular example, it should not be confused with modern museum reproductions made of fiberglass, etc. This piece is 12 1/2" tall, weighing in at 2 pounds, 8 ounces without packaging, and made from a heavy cast metal, presumably bronze. The base exhibits a green patina, and is marked with unknown numerals, as photographed. It is a lively depiction of a faun--any of a minor Roman deity--who is both man and goat. Note the horns on his head and the tail on his backside. The figurine is extremely well modeled, with lots of detail in the casting, including well defined musculature and molding of the hair and facial features. There is some wear to the darkened patina, showing through to a shiny gold color underneath. This especially evident on the high points of the sculpture--the fingertips, hair, genitalia, tail, etc. There are no damages to note. The piece is something I bought at a flea market that had been purchased out of an estate sale. The opening bid is the amount I paid for it. Thank you for looking! Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.
