Beautiful Antique Bench is a wonderful bench that has just come from a Texas Estate. I actually bought this from a friend that was liquidating the family home. This belonged to his mother who had received it from previous family members dating it to the very early 1900's. She has re-upholstered it somew along the way. The piece is very ornate in appearance with multiple and various accents, twisted cross members and Paw or Lion feet. The double cross members are somewhat rare and unique as well as attractive to the eye. The Craftmanship would blend well with Art Nouveau or Victorian venues. This would also look great with todays "Old World" hardware....light fixtures....and plumbing fixtures....that are found in so many of the New Homes that are being built. The piece looks like it is made from a combination of cast and wrought iron. The sides being cast....and the twisted cross members being wrought. Everything is very solid with no cracks or breaks. The overall size of the bench is close to 26 inches in the longest direction and 12 inches the other way. That basically boils down to measuring the top or seat area....as it is the largest area. The seat is also close to 19 1/2 inches from the ground. Measuring the iron base alone....22 inches in the longest direction and 15 1/2 inches from the ground(w the bottom of the seat would attach). The upholstery has some spots and faded areas and probably needs to be redone. Someone with a creative touch could possibly add some sort of embellishment or stitching to cover the spots. It is not terrible but the fabric is somewhat dirty. Antique iron always looks great....as an accent piece....especially in that cottage or bungalow.
