On offer is this Victorian, Prattware "Bears grease" jar which is known as "Bears at School" and is rated as RARE by the most recent reference book on these Multicolored lids. It has a line and dot border, and measures 3" in diameter. It has two smallish, outer flange, shallow flake/chips (pic.7) and a very faint, hardly noticeable, hairline to the side flange (pic.6 & 8 ) This does not appear to have any impact on the overall, healthy structure of the lid. I have matched the lid with one of my spares....slightly loose, but more than adequate for display. For viewers who may be unfamiliar with these enchanting little lidded jars.....they were used mainly in the Victorian era for the marketing of paste & grease products. They were made obsolete around the time of WW1 when cheaper forms of packaging made them all but redundant. This particular example would have contained Bears grease, which the Victorians believed would cure, or at least retard baldness. The collecting of these lids has become a popular world wide hobby. Overseas bidders are welcome, but please note, seller is not responsible for duties or taxes which may be levied by import authorities of countries outside the U.S. I complete U.S. custom forms accurately. Payment is expected within 3 days, and if there is any hitch, please communicate and we can work something out.
