The robe that is up for sale was originally thought to be from the mid-1920s, but, according to Harland Eastman, President of the Sanford-Springvale Historical Society in Sanford, Maine, the animal motif dates the carriage robe to as early as the 1880s.Though it was said that the animal motif was started in the 1880s I have no proof that this blanket was from that period. I will call this a one owner Lap Robe as it has been in my family since it was bought 3 generations ago. This blanket would look really nice being hung for all to enjoy. It has the (CHASE MARK) and measures about 48x56---Horsehair--mohair--all I can tell you it is heavy and would certainly keep out the cold.HOWEVER-----It does (NOT) have the glass eyes--darkness on each side--several worn holes probably from a moth at one time. Some fading and wear due to the age of well over 100 years. Please check out my picturesQuestion are always welcome
