This is a very unusual and rare antique medical electrical instrument. It was manufactured by a person named A. Cheetam who described himself as a Medical Electrician, based in Rhyl in North Wales. The label inside of the lid of the lovely mahogany box give full instructions on its operation.I have tested the device by attaching a modern battery and there is a current detected using a voltmeter at the terminals of the device. The device comes with two metal-clad handles which can be connected to the original cable, which is actually two cables woven into one. The other end of the cable is connected to the device terminals. I have not attempted to connect up the two hand-held probes and power them up. I have inspected the inside of the device and it is constructed in such a way that there is basically nothing to breakdown. All of the controls operate freely. The case is in lovely condition, inside and out with only the usual patina expected for an item of this age. The only negative is that the lock has no key and the lock catch plate is damaged. There would also have been two swinging hooks that secured the lid to the body. However, these can easily be replaced with period originals and do not affect the actual items functionality and appeal.
