This appears to be a very old and rare piece . It is an exquisitely crafted, octagonal, Georgian sugar caster. Research indicates it is very old and unique and should be seriously considered by a silver expert/collector . It has the hallmarks of the Lion Passant, the City of Chester, and the date mark, a capital, script "I" in a square with rounded corners, that appears to be 1734. T is no duty mark. The maker stamp "R.P" is to the left of the three hallmarks. The Lion Passant and the date mark are also on the sleeve of the top. The number 2 is stamped on the under side and on the sleeve of the top. The top has an intricately cut pattern. This is not a heavy piece of silver and it is not weighted at the bottom. T are some extremely faint scratches and dents but it is in excellent condition given it's estimated age. It is 5 3/4 inches tall.
