This is a an incredible Chinese Pipa, or Lute. Although I am not an expert, I believe it is at least 19th century because the neck is straight vice curved and it looks that old overall with silk strings. The craftsmanship is amazing with a rosewood back, and other parts including custom rosewood inlays framing the base with another unidentified wood top, and a bat carving on the head. There are eight frets on the body and four on the neck. There are four rosewood tuners. Conditionally, it's in great shape with maybe a half inch missing off one of the tuners and a little wood separation on the upper neck which you can see in the picture. Measures 36 1/2"h x 10"w at the widest part of body approximately.
