ITEM DESCRIPTION Antique CHINESE CARVED Rosewood TABLE w/ MARBLE TOP This is a magnificent carved Chinese rosewood tabouret table or pedestal. It has ornate sides, which are carved with a a variety of motifs. It rests on cabriole legs that end in very well detailed carved lion's paw feet. It has a rose pink marble top. It is carved at the knees that have what appear to be gargoyles carved on them the 3rd photo to examine the unique face on the top of each leg). This fine piece is well made and sturdy - it even has a cross piece under the marble to help stabilize its weight. Asian tables and ped estals like this were extremely popular in the late Victorian era (1880-90s) all the way up to the 1930s. Every well decorated home in the late Victorian era had one of these Chinese tables -- the shorter ones were used as occasional tables and the tall versions were used to hold large ferns. This table is brilliantly carved, has rich patina and an exquisite rose pink marble top. These Chinese carved stands are getting harder and harder to find so don't miss this one! No damage on the marble other than some age appropriate surface scratches.
