I have for auction a pair of antique Chinese rank badges which have been loosely stitched together; they each measure approx. 11x12". As one piece they measure approx. 22x12". Rank badges wre made in pairs to be attached on the front and back of an official coat which opened down the centger front. The top badge is made in two parts, split down the center to be sewn to two sides of the front of a coat.The top badge has been stitched thru the middle as when worn it would have been in two pieces for each side of the front of a jacket; the second badge would have been worn on the back. These badges are lined with blue silk; condition is commensurate with age; there is one small rent in the left hand side of the front badge and three rents in the badge which would have been worn on the back; these are not serious holes and can be repaired by a skilled needleworker; the braid along the sides is loose as some of the stitching has come out; as I say commensurate with age they are in very good condition; colors are good and definition is wonderful; a real work of art. The blue silk ling on the back is a little faded but I can see no other damage to it. A lovely pair of antique textiles which deserve to be framed and preserved.
