Antique Chinese Opera Doll Circa 1899/1901~Good condition for her age~113 years A Genuine Antique Chinese Opera Doll This is an intricately detailed Chinese Opera doll from the late 1800s - early 1900's She is 10" tall. I have a provenance for her in the form of the previous owner and it will be included in the sale. She was brought to the UK as a gift in 1901 and the paper sets out exactly who brought her and for whom. She has a Gofun pigment face with handpainted features. Her black hair is painted on and embellished with much gold, red and beads, [some missing], all topped with a tiny delicate white paper Chrysanthemum. Her torso is solid and her wooden hands have very long delicate fingers which have been broken and carefully mended, please see the pictures. Her legs, as far as can be seen, are wooden, hinged at the knee and hinged again to metal rods which appear to be attached to the sides of the torso. She is wearing her original costume which is beautifully embroidered, and detailed. She has a type of fur-edged bib over her dress. The traditional design of the dress is richly embroidered with Gold & Silver thread plus rich reds, pinks and brown and the Dragon head on the front is finely stitched in Gold thread.
