Antique Chinese Ox Blood Flambe Porcelain Vase Jarlet This porcelain vase was purchased in Hong Kong in June 1968 and came from my father's estate. He was a world traveler and avid collector of Chinese and Asian art. A classic Langyao Hong or sang de boeuf glaze, also known as ox blood, covers this vase. This is a very vitreous, red glaze due to the copper content. The glaze was believed to be produced at the Kangxi imperial kilns at Jingdezhen during the early 17 th century. This is a beautiful, petite, urn-shaped vase with a stunning glaze. The manner in which the glaze separated is unusual and I have not seen this on any of the other ox blood vases my father owned. When viewed with a jeweler's loupe, a fine crackle finish is visible on the light blue glaze; t is no such finish on the ox blood sections. The neck rim is off-white and has a small chip on the outside edge (see photo). After careful examination with a loupe, I cannot tell for certain if the chip occurred prior to firing and someone tried to fix it. Two lion or fu dog heads are on opposing sides at the shoulder of the vase. A chip occurred prior to firing on the footring outer edge (see photo). A bit of the glaze melted and covered the chip so that it is relatively smooth to the touch. A maker's mark is visible on the bottom; I do not know what it says other than read more
