This auction is for a very nice antique (mid 19th Century) CHINESE RANK BADGE . The badge depicts a golden bird, indicating the wearer was in one of the classes of civil service during the Qing Dynasty. The bird faces left, indicating the badge was meant for a man. The badge is made of brocade (woven) cloth enhanced with couched metallic threads and a bit of surface painting. The Greek key border is made of finely couched thread applied to a rich brown cloth. The badge measures11 ½” x 12 ½”. It is in good condition, with a few small expertly made repaired tears.
