This auction is for a beautiful antique (late 19th/ early 20th Century) CHINESE ROBE . This women’s robe is made of a fine blue-black damask silk woven with stylized butterflies and peony flowers. The sleeves are hand embroidered with depictions of objects in the hundred treasures motif, popular in the late Qing Dynasty. Some of the objects are done in the forbidden stitch (Peking knots). The trims are made of brocaded fabric. The robe closes with three brass buttons. The robe has a silk lining. There is an old label attached to the inside of the robe, written in Chinese characters. The robe is in very good condition with just one small hole caused by improper pinning. The hole goes from the back through the lining to the front of the robe, just under the left arm. It is larger on the back. (see pictures) The inner lining has light staining, consistent with age.
