But sometimes people are confused about the price of the silver item.Some collectors just emailed me to question why the price of antique silver items is quite different, and why some of my items are so expensive?One reason is for old items are getting more and more difficult to find,and the price is getting higher and higher.And also from my following tips you can see how to judge the price of the piece of silver.

To judge the price of a piece of silver, it is necessary to consider the following two aspects:

1. It is necessary to look at whether it is truly antique or merely a reproduction, and of course the older it is, the more money it is worth. Judging the age of a piece of silver is not as complicated as judging the age of a piece of jade or porcelain. Firstly judge by the patina - the patina of old silver is natural and gentle, was with new reproductions, especially those of inferior quality, it will be shining and dazzling, not natural. Next, one can use a magnifying glass to examine the surfaces of the piece. Antique pieces will have been worn away naturally, tfore the attrition of the surface will be uneven, yet not rough. With reproductions (although high quality reproductions will copy this well), because the wearing-away will be contrived by the maker, the level of attrition will be even all over the piece, but still quite rough.

2. It is necessary to look at the quality of the material and the craftsmanship,and also of course the weight of the item,weigh it to see if it's a solid or thick or thin.The material of antique silver pieces will be largely pure silver, with the proportion of pure silver being over 90%, the higher the silver content the whiter the colour of the piece. This is what we call white silver. With pieces made of silver alloy, they are commonly made with an alloy of silver and copper. In such cases the lower the proportion of silver, the more yellow the colour of the piece. T are also some pieces which are called silver which are actually made of paktong or an alloy of paktong and copper or nickle. Although the lustre of these pieces can also appear to be white, yet it is still very easy to distinguish them as the material quality is not the same. Naturally the difference in prices is also substantial.
With regard to craftsmanship, first one needs to see if the outward appearance of the piece is beautiful, then see if designs on the surface are hand-engraved or cast in a mould. It is common for buyers to question why pieces of silver which look very similar have such vastly different prices - actually it is according to whether they are hand-engraved and the level of detail in that engraving.
