The small dog or lion is carved from a piece of cream-coloured soapstone. It is about 1.6" or 4.1cm long and 1" or 2.5cm high. There is a hole about 0.25" or 7 mm wide drilled in the base and another smaller one about 0.2cm wide that is drilled through and comes out between the front legs of the animal. There is a chip? in the animal's tail and another in the base near the tail; both are about 0.25" or 1.2cm long. The figure on a square base is carved from a piece of red soapstone. It is 2.2" or 5.7cm high and the square base is 0.7" or 1.8cm wide. One side of the head is missing and this seems to be a very old break; I think it was probably carved as a blank seal. Both seem to be quite old - certainly 19th century but possibly a lot earlier. Please note that we always let our auctions run their course so please do not ask for "Buy It Now".
